In this day and age information is spread so quickly through many mediums that even the regular person can know something as soon as it happens. The steroid issue in baseball is just another example of how quick information spreads.
I always hear, from the older people, that this player or that player would dominate if he played right now and he/she played that game fair. Are they sure of that? Steroids have been around for a very long time just in different forms. How do we know that Hank Aaron wasn't on steroids during his career? I am sure the testing then was not there or was very minor.
Information back then was not as quick to surface as it is now because there were only a few mediums it could be released on. There was no internet, no satellites linking in space transferring information back and forth all over the world. Barry Bonds is alledgely linked to steroids and it is on ESPN and every internet site and every news station in a matter of minutes. That is the difference.
We will never know about the past but we definitely know about today.
I am totally against steroid use. Do I think it gives a player and advantage? I would say yes but I seriously doubt it has a great advantage. I think that steroids should be eliminated from sports for the players safety and the preservation of the game.
